Project Lifesaver is the premier search and rescue program operated internationally and is strategically designed for “at risk” individuals who are prone to the life-threatening behavior of wandering. The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition. Locally, this is a collaborative project between SOS Care, The City of Myrtle Beach and Horry County Public Safety.
How it works...
Citizens enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a small personal transmitter around the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal, if an enrolled client goes missing, the caregiver notifies their Project Lifesaver agency and the trained Horry County Team responds. The batteries need to be changed monthly which is part of the coordination of SOS Care’s staff. Search times for these individuals have been reduced from days and hours to 30 minutes with this program.
The cost of the band and batteries for one year is $350 per year. We provide this service free of charge to the individual.
